Bungalow House Plans & Home Designs
Bungalows originally designed by the British for use in colonial India, also became a popular building style for the western US and parts of the southeast. For that reason, this home style is designed for warmer climates. The roofs are hipped, thereby providing large attics for storage space and for capturing the heat in the summer. Windows are grouped together for greater sunlight and for greater ventilation. Bungalow house plans have wide overhanging eaves, again to hold off the heat, as well as larger porches to sit on in the evening. The Arts & Crafts or Craftsman style, of which Bungalows are a subset, is characterized by simplicity and lack of the fanciful ornamentation one finds in Victorian homes.
