Florida House Plans & Home Plans
Although Florida style house plans originally got there name due to their start in sunny Florida this style of architecture has spread across the country.
These house plans are designed with the warm, humid climate in mind. While you may see a multitude of architectural styles in Florida, the most prevalent will be Mediterranean home style, Spanish and European. These home plans are designed to be comfortable and livable in the warm Florida climate. Stucco exteriors with clay tile roofs are common as are living areas with plenty of open spaces. An open floor plan allows for air to circulate more freely throughout the home. The exterior of Florida home floor plan often focuses on the backyard, which usually includes a terrace, lanai, deck or patio that borders a swimming pool.
Floridian style house floor plans will rarely have a basement due to the elevation and water table. The exterior walls will typically be made of concrete. Cement block walls are sometimes replaced with ICF or Insulated Concrete Forms. Concrete is used because it is the best base strata for the stucco exterior finish.
This home style remains popular and are suited to meet today’s strict Florida building codes. Please review the IRC for new home construction before your by plans to build a home in the state of FL.
